Spiritual hygiene is probably the most critical aspect of our spiritual path. When we are not spiritually clean, it means we are spiritually contaminated. This contamination allows negative energies and entities to more easily cling to us and gain access to our auric field. Therefore, spiritual hygiene is essential for our soul health.
Spiritual hygiene is just as important as washing your hands. This is vital for one simple reason: cleanliness is next to Godliness. When it comes to spiritual hygiene, we want the energies around us to flow freely and not become stuck or stagnant.
Spiritual practitioners especially need to understand this concept, and so does anyone living life while studying spirituality.
Clearing Energy Isn’t Just Woo—It’s Spiritual Hygiene in Action
Let’s face it; there is enough woo and airy-fairy dust to go around more than once. Understanding how the unseen energetic world impacts us helps us discern the types of energies and frequencies we encounter.
What Spiritual Hygiene Actually Refers To
Spiritual hygiene is the ability to learn and discern the energies and entities surrounding us while learning how to clear and transmute malevolent, lower-frequency vibrations. This helps us live more thoughtfully and with intention.

How Spiritual Hygiene Affects Your Daily Energy
Spiritual hygiene affects our daily frequencies, emotions, energy, and moods. When we are spiritually dirty, I call it psychic soot. It’s that feeling when you know you’ve cleaned your home, but somehow it doesn’t feel clean. Or as you look around, nothing seems clear or sharp.
This dampens our connections to the higher realms, and we need to learn how to clear this gunk up.
Subtle Energetic Debris That Builds Up Over Time
It is no different from deciding not to vacuum or sweep the floors of your home. Eventually, when you walk barefoot, you start to step on crumbs and other debris. This debris starts to build up; as it accumulates, it begins to attract rodents and insects. These rodents and insects are in search of food, a good meal.
When we are filled with energetic debris, we attract negative entities- those parasites that want to use us as their food source. When we clean and clear ourselves, our frequencies become too high for them to attach.
Signs You Might Be Spiritually “Clogged”
These are just a few signs that you might be spiritually clogged.
- Brain fog is one of the most common signs we are spiritually clogged or blocked.
- Feeling as though you have not achieved much throughout the day.
- Experiencing greater difficulty connecting to Source or your guides.
- Difficulty sleeping at night.
- Feeling like something is watching you.
- Catching glimpses of shadows in your peripheral vision.
Why Spiritual Hygiene Is Essential for Emotional and Mental Balance
Our subconscious self knows when something is off. When we are slimed with psychic soot, it creates an imbalance and instability within us. It can lead us to feeling mentally unwell at the same time.
Your Spirit’s Clean Slate Impacts Everything Else
When we are spiritually clean and clear, it feels like the sky is the limit. Connecting to our higher self and our Soul Tribe becomes effortless. Our decisions seem easier, and life flows smoothly.
Our mental and emotional health stabilizes, creating an environment where those around us can feel this change, making us more magnetic.
Practices That Support Good Spiritual Hygiene
As a spiritual practitioner, I create a large space between clients to ensure that I remain clean and clear. While it may not be the best ‘business model,’ it is the correct approach to guarantee the safety and well-being of my clients and myself.
I take this work very seriously and feel honored, blessed, and humbled to be able to do what I do. I know that the cornerstone is spiritual hygiene.
#1) Clearing Energy with Water, Smoke, or Sound
Water infused with essential oils, smoke (I prefer pure resin blends that I hand craft LINK), and sound. All three of these elements involve high frequencies. You can choose to use one or more methods simultaneously or individually.
When I feel like I am about to become emotional about what a client is experiencing, I have to steel myself. When I have a moment, I wash my hands with a salt scrub that I make, which helps me separate from another person’s drama. You can even build a mini water fountain. Get a small water pump for an aquarium, a large glass bowl, place the pump at the bottom of the bowl, add a bunch of small crystals, and then fill it with water. Turn it on and let the water flow.
I often burn a resin blend in my resin burner to keep the energies clear. Additionally, sound is very healing; you can use tuning forks, crystal bowls, and Tibetan bowls.
#2) Using Visualization to Shift Unwanted Energy
Our minds are our most powerful asset. Learning how to visualize clearing energies will help us in many ways. One of the more common methodologies comes from St Germain.
Learn how to summon a violet flame to cleanse, purify, and transmute all energies that do not serve your greater good.
#3) Creating Protective Rituals and Boundaries
Creating spiritual rituals, practices, and boundaries will help you maintain a certain level of cleanliness. Then on those days when you need more, you will intuitively know and feel it.
How Often Should You Practice Spiritual Hygiene?
How often should you practice your spiritual hygiene? Every day. Does it mean you need to follow a long list of daily practices before starting and ending your day? No. It means to do what you have time and energy for. It means some days you don’t need to do much.
There will be days when you encounter toxic people and places, and you need to bring out your big guns, so to speak. Use your intuition regarding these elements.
Tuning into Your Energy Needs Daily
Tuning into your energetic needs, any drains or leaks will teach you what you need to do to clear yourself.

Spiritual Hygiene Isn’t About Perfection—It’s About Presence
Let’s repeat this: Spiritual hygiene isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence. It involves being present in the moment and being mindful of what your soul needs on your journey. Spiritual hygiene also encompasses learning and growing, incorporating new elements while discarding and honoring what no longer serves you.
Keeping your energy field clean isn’t just a supportive habit—it’s a vital act of spiritual integrity that influences everything from your clarity of thought to your emotional stability and intuitive access.
The need for spiritual hygiene reflects a deeper truth: we are always in contact with energies that either uplift or drain us, and our ability to navigate those forces with intention determines how effectively we move through life.
The path toward soul clarity begins with consistency, not complexity, and builds the kind of inner strength that holds up even under pressure.
